The upgrade rails are a one-time installation that allows your existing air purifier cabinet to work with the new TriPure™ Filter platform. In addition to enabling compatibility, the new easy-glide rail system makes future filter replacements faster and easier by allowing the filter to slide smoothly into place every time. Once installed, no additional rail changes are needed for future filter replacements.
Every Upgrade Kit includes one-time upgrade rails that must be installed before using the new TriPure™ Filter. Watch our step-by-step installation video here.
While your new TriPure™ Filter may look different and be a different thickness than your previous AprilAire Filter, it was specifically engineered to deliver improved performance through advanced filtration media rather than relying on filter depth alone. TriPure™ Technology provides enhanced filtration performance, lower airflow resistance to help support HVAC system efficiency, and up to 12 months of filter life. This allows the filter to deliver better overall air purification while maintaining the convenience of annual replacement.
Yes, new TriPure™ Filters are designed to fit all AprilAire 4″ and upgraded 6″ whole-house air purifier cabinets. Compatible systems can use the new TriPure™ Filter with the included upgrade rails. No air purifier cabinet replacement is required. View the filter conversion guide here to find your model.
MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) serves as a test designed to minimize confusion about the performance of air filtration devices by assessing the minimum or worst-case scenario for a product’s effectiveness.
The test evaluates an air filter’s efficiency across three particle size ranges: large particles (3.0 – 10 microns), medium-size particles (1.0 – 3.0 microns), and small particles (0.30 – 1.0 micron). While two products may share the same MERV rating, variations exist in terms of initial particle size efficiency, initial air resistance, air leakage, bypass air, service life, and tested airflow.
The standard requires the test to be conducted at 1200 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute). However, not all manufacturers adhere to this condition, and reduced airflow can inflate an air filtration device’s MERV rating. It’s essential to note that MERV solely assesses immediate performance, and a product may exhibit a lower MERV as it begins filtering particulate matter. The MERV test also employs test dust containing carbon.
An AprilAire Air Filter plays a crucial role in your HVAC system, trapping dust and other airborne pollutants that can pose health risks or lead to HVAC system issues. As the filter accumulates debris over time, its efficiency diminishes, making it essential to replace it for optimal system performance.

Below are manuals, spec sheets, and install guides for AprilAire Air Filters.
*Performance results based on controlled testing in accordance with ASHRAE 52.2 2017 test procedure against other leading brands, showing up to 30% lower static pressure for 3” filters and up to 20% lower static pressure for 1” filters. Comparative results may vary depending on system conditions and application.
